How To Edit Status Post in Facebook?

FACEBOOK finally allow user to edit status

Previously, facebook only allow edit the comments but not in the post (status), but now, Facebook allow to do so.

For mobile version it has been allowed to do so since 27-Sept-2013

with this new capability, users now can correct spelling and grammatical errors, means posts can be modified, and their content changed.

Some people may worry on the changes, for example , if a person post a status ” I like cat” , and then a follower post a reply : “me too”. and then the person edit the status to “I hate cat”, then obviously it will misleading the visitors think that the follower hate the cat too.

But to me, it is still traceable, because facebook has introduce the “edited” link and you can still check back what is the original post. (see below screen ). If you are still not satisfied, you can always capture the screen of what people said.

The only things is , you still need to spend time to clarify that what you mean is not what the status mean if the people question you :)

Google force to do SEO locally ?

Is Google Forcing use of localize Google ?

Two days ago, when I went to, it redirected me to Fine. I know sometimes I have cleaned the cache and Google can’t remember my favorites way. Then I just click the bottom right link to, but it fail, it still redirect me to forcing

I was thinking it may be a bug while Google was changing the algo, especially the recent Google Penguin update. So I decided to observe few days and see. But until today, When I go and click again, it still redirect me to

I went to search in forums , such as here and here . People are making noise and complaints. Seems this is not only happen in Malaysia, but also in other countries. People are forced to re-direct back to his own country localize Google.

Is this affect SEO ? From my point of view, now local SEO providers have the stronger excuse to urge the clients to target local market, as the is not reachable (although we still can access by typing , but not many people know ) . Target on will be less important, as every people in their own country will be forced to re-direct to his own local google.

But does it mean that we have to give up ? Of course not. My opinion is, ranking in is a “status” to proof that your website reach the “international qualification” on Google search queries. As we know that is the “mother” of all local googles, it means that ranking on will be much harder ranking on . And generally if a website rank on top 10 in, most of the time it also rank top 20 in other local Google such as , and etc..

So my conclusion is , unless you are content on serving local market, then don’t bother this changes made.

Update 21/jun/12 : Seems Google has heard the complain and change back to normal setting, now click “” at the right bottom of can bring back to

Negative SEO Malaysia | Sabotage Website

Can SEO Services Sabotage a website ?

I think many SEO providers come across this question asked by the customer : “My website ranks lower than my competitors, can you help me to take down my competitor who rank higher than me ?” Generally my answer is “No” , although I know it is possible but I won’t do that, simply because of business ethics.

How will it possible ? In general ,this is called “Negative SEO” or “SEO Sabotage” . It means using un-ethical way to shoot down a website listing in search engine. Of course, it will not so easy. If you want to sabotage a website, the pre-requested condition is you can access to the website, and adding some code to prevent Google crawl it, for example, robots.txt file.

However, Robots.txt won’t be so effective. From my past experiences, robots.txt can prevent Google Spider to crawl it, but if your website is already rank in Google, the robots.txt cannot stop Google to display the result which is already crawled by Google Spider in previous attempts.

Recently we get a SEO project to optimize 6 hotels and resort (in 6 domains) which is under a well-known brand name in Malaysia. The client complain that the previous SEO provider (“N” company) didn’t perform well and that’s why he decided to switch to us.

After 2 week the client switched to us, we found that the listing on Google disappear – not only one hotel’s listing, but ALL six domains are no longer there, even you type the domain name , the Google Search Result also doesn’t display any single domain – it was really a disaster to the client ! Just imagine people type the hotel name in Google and cannot find it , how a big shame to the client !

I reported this to the client and I said I suspect the previous SEO company did it. My client asked how this could happen ? I answered, the client has inserted the Google webmaster code inside the websites, acting as the website’s owner and request Google to remove the website from Google search results. I have login to the webmaster tool and show these “removal requests” to the client. And of course, I requested Google to re-include them back. Just a few days, Google re-include all the 6 domain listing back.

I don’t know my client will take legal action against the “N” company , but indeed , “Negative SEO” or so call “SEO Sabotage”, may becoming “hot” in Malaysia market in view of there are so many un-qualified SEO company/consultant in Malaysia are doing unqualified SEO jobs.

I don’t want to go very details how Negative SEO works (that’s why in the real case above I won’t tell in details). But in general, SEO can sabotage a website only by inserting a code in to the website. Now, you may asked “Is it possible to sabotage a website WITHOUT inserted any code ?” My answer is YES but it will be much more difficult, I will rather keep this as a secret. Sorry for not disclose it.

Are Guaranteed SEO Services Bad ?

Guaranteed SEO Malaysia , Genuine or Gimmick ?

In many developed countries, it is a common practise that provide money back guarantee to protect consumer’s interest. For example, New Zealand has a “Consumer Guarantee Act” . Under this Act, the consumer rights are expressed as a series of “guarantees” that a seller automatically makes to consumer when consumer buy any good or service ordinarily purchased for personal use. If the problem is minor, and can be fixed, the retailer can choose to either repair, replace or refund ; If the problem is serious and cannot be fixed, the consumer can reject the good/services and request for refund (money back) . When the consumer have the right to reject the goods, sellers cannot just offer a credit note. If the consumer want a refund, he or she is entitled to Money Back - by cash, cheque or credit card charge reversal.

My friend Larry Lim recently wrote an article “Why Guaranteed SEO is Bad” and point out the Guarantee SEO is a gimmick. He says :

1. Firstly, it’s unethical for anyone (other than the search engines themselves) to provide any form of guarantee. Even Google’s SEO Guidelines says this: “Beware of SEOs that claim to guarantee rankings…”

2. Secondly, the SEO Company will only play safe to target low-traffic keywords or easy to achieve keywords.

3. Finally They will have no choice but to use automated methods to save time and effort. Or, The SEO works are outsourced cheaply to India, Philippines and Vietnam.

I do not agree with his views above although I have no intention to argue with Larry Lim. Like many other business , there are always some bad providers to take advantages on clients but we cannot blame all the providers or mis-judge that some of the techniques they used are bad. Below is my opinion contrast with his views :

1. Google says “beware of SEO that claim to guarantee rankings, no one can guarantee #1 ranking”. Yes, I agree with this. But if you read the statement of most SEO guarantee, it actually means “Money Back Guarantee” if the ranking cannot be achieved. For the #1 ranking , again, until now I don’t see any SEO provider dare to offer #1 ranking, Most of the Guarantee SEO is to guarantee top 10, or first page ranking, not Number. 1 ranking.

2. For the 2nd point , Yes, I agreed that there are some un-professional Guaranteed SEO providers only optimize the low-traffic keywords, or not profitable keywords. I have even write this in the SEO services FAQ in . That’s why we need to educate the clients to choose the right keywords, such as using Google External Keywords tool.

3. The third point, is quite not fair to link to Guarantee SEO. I know there is a well-known SEO company in Singapore, even they don’t provide ranking guarantee or money back guarantee, but they actually outsource their SEO job to Philippines. I don’t think it is a problem as long as the SEO result is delivered, unless there is a discrimination here. For those SEO providers that using “automated” method to SEO (can be considered as webspam), many of them are already punished in the latest Google Penguin update, read my SEO post here.

“Guarantee” is a common practise for the good of consumers, not magic or business gimmick, unless it is abused in other ways. If New Zealand has such act to protect consumers, why not SEO provider in Malaysia ? In fact , we have a step forward because the Consumer Guarantee Act only protect end-users and not apply to business-to-business.

P/S : Wonder why I am so concern on “Guaranteed SEO” ? Simply because I am the First one (to my knowledge) that provide SEO money back guarantee since year 2001, when the SMIDEC e-commerce grant was launched and I am the one to suggest this in their e-commerce providers meeting. So I think I need to voice out my views to clarify this Guarantee SEO.

Google Penguin Update, Did you hurt ?

Google Penguin Update, Did you hurt ?

on 24 April 2012, Google launched his new Algo update, name “Penguin” that targeted  “webspam”, Google says the “Penguin Update” will impact about 3% of search queries.

Fighting “Web Spam”

What’s “webspam,” as Google calls it, or search spam? Pages that try to gain better rankings through things like:

Targeting Spam, Not “Over-Optimization”

According to the post from Search Engine Land, is this the “over-optimization” penalty that Cutts warned was coming last month? Yes and no. It is the update he was talking about, but Cutts is clarifying that now somewhat infamous over-optimization statement.

“I think ‘over-optimization’ wasn’t the best description, because it blurred the distinction between white hat SEO and webspam. This change is targeted at webspam, not SEO, and we tried to make that fact more clear in the blog post,” Matt told Search Engine Land.

Is SEO dead ?

Some people may say that the SEO is dead, but I think as long as the search engines are there, SEO will not quit. Just like what happen to previous Google famous algo changes “Florida Update”, “Panda Update”, there is still SEO survivals. I believe that website affected by this “penguin update” are doing much more than white hat SEO.

Not believe ? just type “Malaysia SEO” , Previously they are 2 websites so called “SEO experts” who are doing Web Spam, now they are dropped to out of top 3 pages. There are even some evidences was posted in forums about they are doing web spam, but Google was still ranking them on #1 page until recent Penguin update, the whole story changes.

Is Penguin algo perfect ?of course not. If you do some research , there are many complains about this update. and Google has a form to fill up, for those think they are innocent and hit by Penguin update.

Penguin update is not the last algo done by Google, and I believe in future they are more algo update to fight web spam and improve the search quality. So they best I can advise is : Do your SEO in the right way.
